It’s tough trying to learn guitar on your own.

Guitar apps and YouTube videos seem convenient enough, but then…

  • “This is hard.”
  • “I can’t make that shape with my fingers.”
  • “Why doesn’t my guitar sound right?”
  • “I’m just not talented.”
  • “I don’t want to do this anymore.”

The good news is you don’t have to watch your child struggle anymore.

We make learning guitar fun, not frustrating.

Hi, I'm Jeremy Eikenberry

Hi, I'm Jeremy Eikenberry

Owner, Maryland Guitar Academy

I always loved music as a kid, and I loved the way the guitar sounded in my favorite songs. I got my first guitar in middle school, and I was so excited…until I tried to play.

Back then the internet was just becoming widespread, and apps weren’t a thing yet. So I picked up a guitar magazine and struggled through a few notes and chords.

I was so frustrated I almost gave up…until one day I found a guitar teacher who could help guide the way.

Along the way, I discovered that music was a supportive community. It was a place where I belonged.

Now 25 years later, my musical journey has taken me to places I never would have dreamed of…

  • Performing on stage with internationally recognized musicians.
  • Playing a multi-week tour of Spain…including a stop at Barcelona’s top jazz club.
  • Winning the prestigious Outstanding Senior Performance award from Ashland University’s music department.

None of this would have been possible without the guidance and support of great teachers along the way.

Today, I have the privilege and the responsibility to pass along what I have learned to the next generation of musicians.

Here are a few of my students’ transformations:

The 9-year-old who bounced from activity to activity because he never felt like he fit in. Today, he loves coming to guitar lessons, and he’s thriving. He finally found his “thing.”

The middle schooler who constantly doubted herself and her abilities. She has learned to acknowledge her progress, celebrate milestones, and set goals for the future…including being a great guitar player!

11

The 11-year-old who went from shy to loving music so much she started writing her own songs to play for her friends!

At Maryland Guitar Academy, kids have fun playing songs and learning new musical skills. But more importantly, they grow as individuals…embrace their creativity…develop their confidence…and learn to believe in themselves.

At Maryland Guitar Academy, we know you are the kind of parent who wants to give your child every opportunity to succeed, experience the joy of music, and learn to believe in themselves.

For that to happen, you need to help your child to learn to play the guitar while avoiding the frustrations of learning alone.

The problem is that it’s easy to get overwhelmed with all the information out there. Videos and apps are a great source of information, but where do you start? How do you give feedback to improve?

We believe that you shouldn’t have to figure all of this out on your own.

We it’s frustrating to try figuring out why your kid’s guitar doesn’t sound right or why a string buzzes.

That’s why we do much more than just share information in our guitar lessons.

We help students develop the right skills at the right time, which builds confidence, independence, and resourcefulness to thrive at learning the guitar.

Outside of classes, students have access to on-demand video lessons and interactive practice tools to reinforce what they have learned and help make practice at home fun and productive.

This takes away the pressure on mom and dad to figure it out and relieves the frustration of trying to do it on your own.
